Beach

A few weeks ago I was offered a chance to head to Kennedy Space Center to do some work with the Space Shuttle Discovery, now fresh back from its mission. Of course, I said yes, and got to spend a few hours standing under the belly of Discovery in the Orbiter Processing Facility. The shuttle gets gutted somewhat between missions, so lots of pieces were missing, but it was great to be so close to the orbiter. The HRSI tiles on the bottom had lots of grey streaks on them, presumably from reentry heating, and the nosecap had visibly changed color since I saw the scans of it from space. No pictures, unfortunately, because I forgot to charge my camera battery...

I couldn't get into the same hotel as my coworkers, so I got one on the beach instead. The first morning I was there, I got to watch the sunrise over the ocean, and over the trip I got to hang out at the beach a lot. It wasn't too crowded, perhaps because Hurricane Ophelia was originally suspected to hit further south than it did.

Now I'm looking forward to an exciting weekend, involving (hopefully) finding the TWA crash site in the Sandias.
